Netflix for Yogi's - Our Top Ten Best Things To Watch July 2018

It's Friday night, you've just finished a beautiful yin yoga class to end the week and you want to vege out on the couch - we got you! Here we've compiled a list of the best things to watch on Netflix for yogi's! So put on some comfy pants...oh wait, you're probably already wearing your yoga pants, make a big pot of chai and some moringa popcorn and enjoy the show!

1. NANETTE - Hannah Gadsby

Honest, articulate, intelligent, open and real are words that come to mind after watching this intense yet inspiring comedy set. Hannah speaks beautifully about connection, about connecting through love, not anger. An emotionally inspiring story.

Behind every joke, there is a story. Hannah Gadsby's award winning "Nanette" comes to Netflix June 19.

2. INNSÆI – THE POWER OF INTUITION

Do you find it hard to find work/life balance? Do you feel on the verge of a breakdown? Then you need to stop, take a breath and watch this documentary. Awaken your intuition and bring awareness to the here and now. A highlight for me was the interview with Marina Abramovic. So much so, that I followed this up by watching The Artist Is Present (which I believe is on Netflix in the U.S) and A Space Between. I highly recommend both documentaries on this inspiring artist.

A film by Kristín Ólafsdóttir and Hrund Gunnsteinsdottir The ancient Icelandic word for intuition is "innsæi," but in Iceland it has multiple meanings. It can mean "the sea within" which is the borderless nature of our inner world, a constantly moving world of vision, feelings and imagination beyond words.

3. Iris

Iris Apfel, the rare bird of fashion, is a shining example of how to live your life to the full! Fearless not just in fashion but in life! I love her! Her joyous celebration of life is so inspiring, you'll spend the whole movie with a smile on your face.

Like on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/IrisFilm See Iris playing in theatres April 29th. IRIS pairs legendary 87-year-old documentarian Albert Maysles with Iris Apfel, the quick-witted, flamboyantly dressed 93-year-old style maven who has had an outsized presence on the New York fashion scene for decades.

4. Ram Dass, Going Home

This is a story of friendship between two very different, yet awakened souls; Timothy Leary and Ram Dass; a friendship that remained steadfast despite their very different journeys in life. "The gift you offer another person is just your being." Ram Dass.

A poetic meditation on life, death, and the soul's journey home. Since suffering a life-changing stroke twenty years ago, beloved spiritual teacher Ram Dass has been living at his home on Maui and deepening his spiritual practice - which is centered on love and his idea of merging with his surroundings and all living things.

5. Lunchbox

We had to throw in a little bit of easy, feel-good entertainment, and Lunchbox is exactly that. I am so drawn to India, the birth place of yoga that I love watching films that share the culture and traditions! I especially loved this quote from the movie, "sometimes the wrong train will get you to the right station."

Middle class housewife Ila is trying once again to add some spice to her marriage, this time through her cooking. She desperately hopes that this new recipe will finally arouse some kind of reaction from her neglectful husband.

6. Naga, The Eternal Yogi

If you need a reminder that yoga is more than the westernised version of handstands in a bikini watch this. Take your yoga practice to the next level with this study of yoga and it's origins.

Set in present day India, this documentary is a research of the origins of yoga, and specifically an investigation of the monastic order of the Naga Baba, worshipers of Shiva and Dattatreya.

7. Wild Wild Country

If you're in a need of a good binge-worth series, look no further. I was very familiar with many of Osho's quotes but not of the controversy surrounding his life.

“Take hold of your own life.
See that the whole existence is celebrating.
These trees are not serious, these birds are not serious.
The rivers and the oceans are wild,
and everywhere there is fun,
everywhere there is joy and delight.
Watch existence,
listen to the existence and become part of it.”

You have to see to be a believer. A Netflix Original documentary series about a controversial cult leader who builds a utopian city in the Oregon desert, resulting in conflict with the locals that escalates into a national scandal. Now Streaming.

8. Cosmos: A Spacetime Odessy

After listening to an interview with the charming Neil deGrasse Tyson (listen to it here), I am totally hooked on this series. For those days, when you're a little distracted by trivial everyday matters, Cosmos helps to give a little perspective and reminds us of how incredible the universe is!

9. Planet Earth 2

This was highly recommended to me this week and it did not disappoint! Nature is so flipping amazing! This world is so full of wonder, as yogis, nay, as humans, it is our duty to take care of this Earth and its inhabitants.

10 years ago Planet Earth changed our view of the world. Now we take you closer than ever before. This is life in all its wonder. This is Planet Earth II. A decade ago, the landmark television series Planet Earth redefined natural history filmmaking, giving us the ultimate portrait of life on Earth.

10. Frida

In celebration of the Mexican artists 111th birthday yesterday, and because her strength and resilience is an ongoing celebration, we had to add this to the list! Plus her wardrobe is enviable!!!

Starring Salma Hayek, Antonio Banderas, and Alfred Molina, 'Frida' chronicles the life Frida Kahlo shared unflinchingly and openly with Diego Rivera, as the young couple took the art world by storm.
